The staff leaned against the stone of the cavern wall, its grim visage cast in relief by the cold light creeping in from outside. Though it lay there still in the shadows, Killion could feel something radiating from it. Some kind of energy. Some kind of power.

That same feeling had drawn him to it, buried as it was beneath the ice. Once he had arrived at the spot where the staff was entombed in frost, Killion had known he was in the right place. It was as if the staff called to him from across the world, begging to be found.

To be freed.

In all his studies at the Academy, in all his wanderings across Solis, Killion had never encountered something like this. It wasn’t merely energy emanating from the staff, like the power he felt pulsing from the SolForge itself. There was power here, yes, but something more. Something more…primal.

The staff was angry.


From a story perspective, Imprisoned Heralds is about the discovery of four beings that the people of Solis come to know as the Heralds. Many within the factions have whispered of a time long forgotten, when the surface of Solis was as lush and green as the subterranean caverns of the Uterra. It is said that some cataclysmic event blotted out the sky and encased the world in ice. Most believed these to be the ramblings of madmen – until the prisons of the Heralds were found.

These prisons, as they came to be known, are objects discovered by Killion deep beneath the melting ice. At first, they were thought to be simply enchanted weapons of some kind, lost after some chaotic battle and only just unearthed once more. Each of the objects has mystical powers that it affords the bearer in combat. But when wielded by a Forgeborn with sufficient training, the objects turned out to be something else entirely – vessels containing beings that may be from that legendary age before the ice.
